Laura Nettekoven, DO
Laura Nettekoven grew up right here in the Fox Valley area. She went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for her undergraduate degree, where she became interested in public health/cultural health and how it relates to primary care. Prior to applying for medical school, Laura participated in AmeriCorps in Milwaukee for one year, where she served as a diabetes educator/assistant for a community health center tailored to caring for Latino populations. There she learned first-hand the importance of primary care in improving health outcomes, particularly within populations that are under-served medically. Because of the wonderful family physician role models (and diabetic education staff) she worked with in Milwaukee, her passion for family medicine developed. Laura then attended Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she participated in family medicine organizations, engaged with influential family doctors, and began to truly see herself as a family physician.
Laura chose the Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency Program because of its vast opportunities and the program’s interest in tailoring her education to her specific interests, not to mention the genuine, passionate, and relatable faculty and current residents. Laura has a young (but quickly growing) son and is very excited to bring her family back home to the Fox Valley. Her whole family loves spending time outdoors together--whether it’s hiking, biking, playing in the backyard, or spending a week in the Boundary Waters. Laura is confident that through the Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency Program, she will be able to carry on her mission as a primary health care provider to prevent future disease and promote optimal well-being of all those in her community. While doing so, she will continue to incorporate her life’s experiences minimizing barriers to health care with a positive, non-judgmental, and patient attitude. She is so excited to start her journey as a family doc and to make a difference together with her colleagues!
