The goal of residency is to prepare you for practice as an independent physician. Through interactions and patient encounters at Mosaic Family Health, our clinical home, Ascension - WI and ThedaCare, our co-sponsors, the Medical College of Wisconsin, our academic affiliate, and various community partnerships, graduates of our program are well trained for all health care settings – rural, international, underserved, urban and suburban.
The greatest strength of any organization is the collection of people in it. We have outstanding faculty, residents, community physicians, staff and patients who are all invested in training future family physicians. This family-like support network and our premiere, individualized curriculum help our residents grow specifically into the doctor he or she wants to be and prepares them to practice:
- Maternity care
- Hospital medicine
- Nursing home care
- Procedural medicine
- Ambulatory care
- Behavioral medicine
Our graduates are exceptionally well trained to provide high quality care for the full spectrum of patients – from sick newborns to complicated geriatric patients – and work within the Fox Valley community to improve the overall health of the people who live here.
Training full scope family physicians
The Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency Program trains future family physicians. As an unopposed residency program, part of our mission is to address Wisconsin’s pending physician shortage. In 2017, we will achieve our 37th academic year, will graduate our 35th class of residents and our 200th resident. Of these 200 graduates, 120 (65%) will practice in the state of Wisconsin, 90 (48%) in northeast Wisconsin and of that 90, 55 (29%) in the Fox Cities area.
"The Fox Valley is a wonderful place to live and work as a family physician. Residents are well supported by the local hospitals and specialists with whom we work and are able to practice full-scope medicine. Residents and faculty enjoy a very nice rapport and mutual respect. We are very fortunate to have faculty who have our best-interests at heart and go the extra mile for us."
