Residency Program

Thank you for your interest in the Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency Program. Please see below for details on how to apply and eligibility requirements.

PGY-1 applicants

Please apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The following documents are required and can be submitted through ERAS:

  • Personal statement
  • MyERAS Application Form
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Medical school transcript
  • Medical school performance evaluation (Dean’s letter)
  • USMLE or COMLEX transcript
  • Current ECFMG status report (for international medical graduates only)

Eligibility criteria

1.
To be considered for a resident position in the Fox Valley Family Medicine residency
program,
applicants must have passed the required sections of the United
States Medical Licensing
Examination (USMLE Step 1 and Step 2) or
Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX
Level 1 and Level 2). Transcripts with passing scores must be posted to ERAS by
ranking deadline.

 

2.
Applicants
must also be able to meet one of the following medical school graduation
qualifications prior to the first
day of appointment for residency
training:

·
Graduate of a medical school
in the United States accredited
by the Liaison Committee on Graduate
Medical Education (LCME). Strong preference for graduation within the last two
years.

·
Graduate of a college
of osteopathic
medicine in the
United States accredited by the
American
Osteopathic Association
(AOA). Strong preference for graduation within the last two years.

·
Graduate of a medical school
outside
the United
States who:

(1)
Holds a currently valid certificate from the Educational Council on Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG),
OR

(2)
Has a full and unrestricted
license
to practice medicine in a United States
licensing jurisdiction
in which
they are training.

 

3.
Graduates
of medical schools outside of the United
States must be
able to provide documentation of the following requirements
prior to the first day of
appointment for residency training:

Be a United
States citizen or a lawful permanent USA resident
with a resident alien permit or green card.

·
Be ECFMG certified, which documents the readiness of international medical
graduates
to enter US residency
programs accredited by the ACGME by meeting specific
medical education credential requirements and
examination requirements.

·
Must have
one year of hands-on US clinical experience, exclusive of observerships.

Interview selection preference

Interview selection preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Passing USMLE Step I and Step II and/or COMLEX 1 and 2 scores
    • In order to be listed on our rank list, passing score reports must be uploaded in ERAS by rank list opening date. Contact the program in extenuating circumstances.
  • Graduated from medical school within the last two years
  • Have at least 12 months of clinical experience in the United States or Canada (research or observerships do not satisfy this requirement)
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
Applications meeting the above criteria will be reviewed holistically and interviews will be offered based on that review.
 

International medical graduates

Before submitting an application, international medical school graduates are asked to review the eligibility criteria below: 

  • Be a United States citizen, a lawful permanent USA resident with a green card
  • Have a passing score on USMLE Step I and Step II exams
  • Provide a current Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification status report in ERAS. This report documents the readiness of international medical graduates to enter US residency programs accredited by the ACGME by meeting specific medical education credential requirements and examination requirements. 2262120C4
